Good Morning Year 2
Welcome to another week of learning.

Please see your English and Maths activities for you to complete each day.
Please see your Science and 2 topic activities to be completed, you can choose when you would like to enjoy them.
Don’t forget you can also have a go at PE, Marvellous Maths, Phonics, Spanish and Home/Life Skills.

Try to do a little bit of learning each day, not forgetting your important Bread and Butter Learning.

Our word of the week this week is:

Majesty
It can mean either- having royal power
or having impressive beauty or scale.
Maybe you could include the word of the week when you write about the Queen this week.

Bread and Butter Learning

·         Read your home reader books, a book from the library or from home. Try to read a little bit every day. There are lots of books on Bug Club.
·         Practise reading and spelling all the common exception words, these can be found on the blog. Choose the Year 1/2 words or Year 3/4 words.
·         Practise all the sounds you have learnt in phonics. There are lots of resources for this on Twinkl, Phonics Play and YouTube.
·         Practise number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. Hit The Button is a great game to help you. There are also games on Education City to help.
·         Practise your handwriting and letter formation using our joined up, cursive handwriting style. There is a help sheet on the blog.







Monday/Day 1

English

This week our English focuses on the Royal family past and present.
Today we are going to find out about Queen Victoria.

Read through the Information, then choose your challenge and complete the questions.

For an extra challenge, complete the sheet and write about what you would do, or change, if you could be King or Queen for a day.

Maths This week we are focusing on mass and capacity.
Can you remember how we measure mass? Do you remember grams and kilograms?

Today we are concentrating on measuring mass in grams.

Tuesday/Day 2

English

Today you will need to use your computing skills to do some research. Use the internet, with an adult, and find out important facts about Queen Victoria.

Have a look at some of the links we have suggested but also try to conduct your own research.

You could also refer to the reading comprehension sheet that you completed yesterday.
You can display your research however you choose – bullet points, fact file, presentation, etc.

You will need to find out the following facts for later in the week:
Title, date of birth, date of coronation, name of consort, how many countries she was head of state for, significant events during her reign, number of children and their names, royal homes, and other interesting facts.

Maths

Today we are learning to measure mass in kilograms.
How many grams are there in a kilogram?
Can you think of some items you may need to measure in grams?

Wednesday/Day 3

English

Did you find out lots of interesting facts yesterday? Today we are going to find out about our current reigning queen, Queen Elizabeth II. Have a think, what do you already know about The Queen? Do you remember when she came to our school for a tea party in Year 1?

Today you will need to use your computing skills to do some research. Use the internet, with an adult, and find out important facts about Queen Elizabeth II.

Extra activity - If you would like to do a practical activity you could choose 5 containers from around your house and put them in order of capacity from smallest to biggest. Then fill them with water and measure the capacity to check. Did you get them in the right order?

Thursday/Day 4

English

Today, you will be using the research that you have already collected to compare the two Queens, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.

Look back through the research that you gathered and then complete the comparison sheet.

Maths

Today we are learning about millilitres. We use the abbreviation ml for this.
How many millilitres in a litre? Can you find objects around your house which have measurements in millilitres on?

Friday/Day 5

English
For SPaG, from now until the end of term, you can choose to learn or revisit any of the Year 2 SPaG lessons (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar).
Lessons include:
-          Apostrophes for possession and contractions
-          Commas in a list
-          Compound nouns
-          Conjunctions
-          Adjectives
-          Suffixes
-          Nouns
-          Adverbs
-          Sentences
-          Homophones
-          Past and present tense.

Each week please choose just one PowerPoint and aspect of SPaG to focus on. There are questions and activities that can be completed on each PowerPoint. We have also included some extra challenge cards should you choose to complete them. These will be available for Friday SPaG lessons every week.

Science (This lesson will be taught at school on Tuesday)

This week we are learning about bees. Did you know some bees have a queen bee?
What do you already know about bees?
Watch the video to learn all about bees.
We are going to learn about the life cycle of a bee. Have a look at the PowerPoint to learn about the life cycle of a bee.

Task: Can you make a poster or model to show the life cycle of a bee? You might want to use play dough, Lego, junk modelling or you can make a poster.
If you prefer you can stick the pictures onto one of the worksheets.


Art (This lesson will be taught at school on Wednesday)

We have already learnt a lot of information about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.
Today we are going to find out about The Queen’s very special jewels and crowns. Watch the video of The Queen talking about her very heavy crown.

Do you know where the crown jewels are kept? They are kept in the Tower of London. You could take a virtual tour around the Tower of London and find out more about the crown jewels by following our link.

Now it’s your turn! Can you design and make your very own crown? Make sure you start of with a detailed sketch and make a list of the materials that you need before you start making.

History (This lesson will be taught at school on Thursday)

This week we are looking at the Royal family and specifically Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.
Have you ever wondered how they are related? How does the Royal family work?
Have a look at the family tree of the Royal family.

Family trees are a way to draw and explain how people fit into a family. Like trees, all families are different, but they are all special.

Have a look at the example family trees created by children.

Ask the adults in your family about your family tree.
You could collect photographs or draw the people in your family.
Create your own or use the cut and stick activity provided.

Phonics

Each week please choose just one Outdoor phonics challenge to focus on. These will be available for phonics each week.


Marvellous Maths

Each week please choose just one maths topic and complete the challenge cards. You can choose which level of ‘chilli challenge’ to complete.

Bronze: Nice and spicy
Silver: It’s getting hot
Gold: Burning up

-          Measurement

PE

You can choose from any of the Get Set 4 PE activities and challenges. These will be available every week on the blog.


Spanish

This week we would like you to have a go at learning the months of the year in Spanish.

Watch the video to learn the months of the year and have a go at practising with someone at home.
You can complete the word search or design a poster to teach younger children the months of the year in Spanish. You can do both activities if you would like to.

You can then watch the Jack Hartman video of months in Spanish.


Home/Life Skills

This week we will focus on budgeting money and being able to order your own meal in a restaurant.
Have a look at the menu on the link. Imagine you have £9.00 to spend. What could you order? How much change would you get?

Can you pretend to order your meal from a friend or relative. Remember to use your wonderful manners and explain to the waiter what you would like.
Why don’t you make your own menu and practise ordering food with different budgets?
