In year 2 this week our Muck, Mess and Mixtures topic has continued to excite us with some super learning. Our Power of Reading book has continued and we found out that Grendel wished for lots and lots of chocolate! In Art this week we designed our own Chocolate land to imagine what it would be like if there was chocolate everywhere! We took inspiration from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for our creations. We then wrote descriptions of our chocolate land in English. Grendel turned his mum to chocolate, as he wished that everything he touched turned to chocolate. He sent us a letter, distraught with what had happened, and asked us to give him some advice. We learnt about bossy verbs before writing a reply to Grendel. In Maths we used bar models to show place value in two and three digit numbers. Miss Argyle was super impressed when the teachers shared our super bar modelling at a meeting! We have also been learning to represent numbers in lots of different ways using c

Weekly News It has been a busy week in Year 2 as we have continued our Muck, Mess and Mixtures topic. In English we have started to read our Power of Reading book and find out more about our little orange monster Grendel. We found out that he LOVES chocolate so we filled a heart with all of the things that we love before writing sentences using conjunctions to explain why we love these things so much. “I love my family because they are so nice and kind to me.” “I love my cat because she is so fluffy and always gives nice cuddles.” As we read a little more of the story, Grendel’s mum gave him a chocolate egg with a note inside which said Grendel would have three wishes. Grendel wishes for everything he touches to turn to chocolate! We debated whether this would be a good or bad wish before thinking of our own wishes using conjunctions. In maths we have been partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones using waffles, chips and peas! We have all been very aspirati

It has been a busy week in Year 2! We started the week by launching our new Muck, Mess and Mixtures topic through an exciting Messy Morning. What fun we had using our hands to explore a variety of different materials, textures and ingredients! In English, we then took inspiration from our morning and wrote sentences to explain our favourite activity using commas in a list of adjectives… “My favourite activity was the Gelli Baff because it was warm, red and very gooey.” “I liked the Splendid Spaghetti because it was slimy, squelchy and as wriggly as a worm.” We have also started our new Power of reading book where we explored a character and setting before writing expanded noun-phrases to describe what we could see and imagine. “The fluffy, orange monster lives in a cave.” “He is a cuddly, friendly monster.” We later found out that the monster is called Grendel and wrote a character description about him. In maths we have been learning how to read and
