We have had a fabulous and greatly varied week in Year 2.   The theme for the week has been aspirations, thinking about what we’d like to do when we’re grown ups, and looking at a lots of different jobs. On Monday, some of us were given a talk by a taxidermist, the rest of us heard about being a pilot.   We were given lots of information, both jobs sound brilliant! In music we looked at being part of a band and learnt to sing a song all about being part of a band. On Tuesday we either had a talk from a hospital consultant or a chaplain in the armed forces.   We then looked at the life and work of Florence Nightingale and all the wonderful things she did to change nursing, in particular the importance of keeping everything clean and free of rats! On Wednesday we had a nurse/midwife in assembly, looking at all the amazing work they do and how wonderful it must be to help so many people. For the rest of the day we were being bakers, making our own bread rolls.   They tasted yu

What a busy week we have had in Year 2 (or should we call part of it Year 3?). Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the children spent in the new classes with their teachers for next year.  The did lots of different activities to give them a taste of what next year will be like.  This included sketching and painting their class animals, learning some French and playing some get to know me games. The children have been enjoying their PE lessons this term, they have been doing lots of different athletics related activities. On Friday, we really enjoyed welcoming all the Year 2 children from the cluster (Hethersett, Little Melton and Cringleford).  They experienced many things with an international flavour - food from different parts of the world, African drumming, International dancing, Aboriginal art, and talks from university students from around the world. As we are nearing the end of year, please could you bring a named carrier bag in to school for the children's books to be bro

Next week

As part of our transition days next week, we are asking the children to bring something small in to share during circle time.  It should be something that will help their new teachers to get to know them, e.g. it could be a favourite toy. They are looking forward to spending a few days with them and getting to know them in preparation for September. Thanks
We’ve had an exciting and fun week this week in Year 2. In English we have been looking back on our time in Year 2, then writing letters to the current Year 1 children, telling them all about the experiences we’ve had so that they know what to expect next year. In maths we have been looking at telling the time.   Cementing our understanding of the basic times on the clock, and then working out problems using time.   We were given such problems as working out a timetable for somebody’s day, if we knew how long each activity started.   We are so confident with telling the time now, we should be able to go to bed on time without any fuss!! In science we have been looking at how baby animals grow in to adults.   We have also been examining how different animals change from babies to adults, for example the changes that butterflies go through from caterpillars. We have been singing sea shanties in music and exploring how and why sailors used to sing while they were at sea.   We ha
