Good Morning Year 2

Welcome to another week of learning.



Please see your English and Maths activities for you to complete each day.

Please see your Science and 2 topic activities to be completed, you can choose when you would like to enjoy them.

Don’t forget you can also have a go at PE, Marvellous Maths, Phonics and Home/Life Skills.

Try to do a little bit of learning each day, not forgetting your important Bread and Butter Learning.

Bread and Butter Learning

·         Read your home reader books, a book from the library or from home. Try to read a little bit every day. There are lots of books on Bug Club.
·         Practise reading and spelling all the common exception words, these can be found on the blog. Choose the Year 1/2 words or Year 3/4 words.
·         Practise all the sounds you have learnt in phonics. There are lots of resources for this on Twinkl, Phonics Play and YouTube.
·         Practise number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. Hit The Button is a great game to help you. There are also games on Education City to help.
·         Practise your handwriting and letter formation using our joined up, cursive handwriting style. There is a help sheet on the blog.

Monday/Day 1
In English this week we are going to be focussing on the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and at the end of the week we will be writing a letter of complaint from the troll.

English
What do you know about the story already? Who are the characters? Can you think of any words to describe them before you start to read?

Task: Can you read the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and answer the comprehension questions?
You can use the PowerPoint to read the story or if you have a copy in a book at home please feel free to read this instead.

 
Maths
This week we are continuing our number lessons with White Rose- remember we are using the lessons from week 6 (W/C 1 June)
In today’s lesson we will look at the 10 times table.
On the last slide of marvellous maths each week, there have been some songs to practise counting in 10s. If you haven’t looked before, do have a look now.

Play ‘Hit the Button’ and practise your 10x table in the times table section.

Now watch White Rose’s video to explain how we can represent numbers in the 10x table using tens and ones, coins and a 100 square.

Could you use post-it notes on your stairs to practise this week?

Task: Can you complete Lesson 1?

Tuesday/Day 2

English

In English today we are going to think about retelling the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We are going to do this using puppets.

Can you remember the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff? What happens in the story?

Task: Can you retell the story using puppets?

Try and use different voices for the characters and expression to make it interesting.

If you want to send us a video of you using your puppets to retell the story we would love to see them.


Maths

Today we are going to be making equal groups by sharing.
Can you remember what equal means?

Have a look at Sweet Share on Education city to remind yourself how to share equally and how to write a division number sentence.

Watch today’s video to learn about sharing equally.

You could do some sharing practically. Use your toys and you
 could share some sweets or biscuits equally between them.
Can you explain what you have done to a grown up? Can you
write the number sentences?

Task: Can you complete the worksheet for lesson 2?

Wednesday/Day 3

English

In English today we are going to think about the different views of the characters in the story. You are going to choose to be either the troll  or the goats.

If you were the troll, what would you think about the 3 goats who want to cross your bridge? Why shouldn’t they cross?
If you were the goats what would you think?  Why should the troll let you cross the bridge?

Task - Your task today is to choose to be one of the characters and write some sentences to explain what you think? You might want to use some of the conjunctions to explain. Remember to use good reasons and explanations as you are trying to convince us that we should agree with your character!


Maths

Today we are going to continue to work on division, but this time, we are making groups.

Watch the lesson 3 video and complete the worksheet.
Log into Education city and practise the division facts you have learnt by playing Goals, goals, goals.

Task: Can you complete Lesson 3 and play Goals, goals, goals?

Thursday/Day 4

English

Today we are learning about the features of a letter. We are going to write a letter of complaint from the troll or the goats tomorrow.

Task – Look at the PowerPoint to learn about the features of a letter. When you have finished read the example letter and label the features that you have learnt about in the PowerPoint.
Can you try and use some of these in your letter tomorrow?

Extension – You might want to write a letter to someone you haven't seen for a long while using these features.


Maths
Today we are going to be learning about odd and even numbers.

Can you remember what odd and even numbers are? Can you make a list of some odd numbers and some even numbers?

Look at Education City and complete the odd and even task.

Watch today’s video to learn some more about odd and even numbers.

Task: Can you complete Lesson 4 Odd and Even numbers?

Did you get on well today? Maybe you could try the extension.

































Friday/Day 5

English

Can you remember the features of a letter?

Today in English you are going to write a letter of complaint to the Board of Fairytales.
You can choose if you would like to write as the troll or as the three goats.

If you are the troll you need to write to complain about the goats. Why do you think they shouldn’t be allowed to cross the bridge?

If you are the goats you need to write to complain about the troll. Why should you be allowed to cross?

Try to include the letter features you found yesterday. You can use the word mat to help you.

Remember your capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, neat handwriting and careful spellings.



Maths
Today our maths lesson is going back to thinking about the position and direction of movement.

Join in with the Cha Cha slide to remind yourself of what we learnt about position and direction already.

Can you remember which way is clockwise and anticlockwise? Can you demonstrate a quarter, half and full turn?
Remember that a 90-degree turn is a quarter turn.

Log into Education city and play About Turn- direct pirate Sten.

Remind yourself of the knowledge organiser for Position and Direction. Do you know what the words mean and how to use them?

Remember to check which direction the objects are facing to ensure you give the correct instructions.

Task: Can you complete the questions using the correct language- The answers are provided on page 2 so you can check your work.

Topic

Science
Think about why we need and use bridges?
What do they need to be to function properly?

Read the fact at the top of the sheet.

Task: Can you build a paper bridge to take the weight of a marble (or similar)? Investigate how long you can make the bridge before it will collapse.

Maybe you could use your super measuring skills to measure the bridge in cm.

you could also have a go at making the paper Tower Bridge.

Computing
To link in with our story of the week- The 3 Billy Goats Gruff- we are going to have a go at researching information about goats and presenting our findings in our own way.

First, watch the two video clips which will help you learn about goats.

Next, can you research and find any more information or facts about goats? Ask an adult to help you search online or see if you have any books at home. Perhaps a grown up may know something.

Finally, choose your favourite pieces of information and present it in an exciting way.
You could make a poster. You could make a fact file. You could produce a powerpoint presentation. You decide.

Task- Present information about goats in your own way.



Geography

To link in with the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff we are going to learn about bridges from around the world this week.

Look at the sheet of bridges from around the world.

Task -  Can you find out where the bridges are in the world using a map, atlas or online source?

You could print out the pictures and match them to an atlas.
You could label each picture with the correct country name.
You could draw each bridge and label it.
Choose how you will display your findings.

Additional learning activities

Phonics
Start off by playing the pirate flashcards game again.

Have a go at Balloon ride on your Education City home learning.

Now complete practise reading, spelling and writing the words in sentences.


Marvellous Maths
It is so wonderful to hear how many of you have been enjoying the Marvellous Maths activities. Remember, these activities will help to keep all your maths learning fresh in your brain and help you to get even better at different skills like telling the time, your times tables and much more!

Today you have another PowerPoint to work through and enjoy.

Task: Can you complete the PowerPoint and use the songs to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s?

PE
This week you can still enter the competition against children from other schools around Norfolk. Click on the link and watch the video to find out more. You can record and submit your entry. The deadline for entries is 15th June.

You can also enjoy your weekly Get Set 4 PE challenge. This week it is a game for 2 players, capture the socks! Have fun!

Spanish

Can you sing our good morning song to remind yourself!

Task: Can you look at the Spanish PowerPoint to remind you of the colours? Can you complete the colouring sheet?


Home/Life Skills

This week we would like you to try to make a bed at home.
Think about what makes a bed comfortable. Think about the order you complete the tasks in.

Have a look at the making a bed sequencing cards- Can you correctly sequence them? Now have a go at making some beds. Remember to be careful and ask for help if anything is too heavy.

Task: Can you make a bed so it is neat, tidy and comfortable?

Maybe you could take pictures of yourself completing your chore and add labels or captions? You could write a sentence under each sequencing card and share it with someone to teach them.
