What a busy week it has been for Year 2!

In maths we have finished our first multiplication topic. We solved some Christmas word problems using our knowledge of multiplication.
We also began collecting some data from our friends. We chose a Christmas themed question with three possible answers. We made a tally to show how many children selected each option...

"What is your favourite Christmas food?"

Turkey                           |||| 4

Christmas Pudding      ||  2

Chocolate Yule Logs    |||| 4

After collecting our data we then transferred our tally marks into a pictogram.

We also started to learn how to divide number using sharing. We found out that division is the inverse (opposite) of multiplication. We can practise division at home by counting how many 2/3/5/10 are in the numbers, e.g.
50 divided by 10 … how many times do you need to count in 10s to get to 50?

On Wednesday we found a letter from our class elf! There was a huge dilemma! Lots of elves in Father Christmas' workshop had called in sick because they have developed tinselitus. Our elves asked us to help save Christmas by writing some job adverts to recruit new elves to finish making and wrapping the toys. Hopefully we have managed to save Christmas!

In Spanish we have been learning some Christmas phrases and also made Spanish Christmas cards.

We would like to say a very big well done to all of the children for their fantastic performances at the Christmas play on Monday and Tuesday. They have worked so hard and we are all very proud of them!

Notes and Reminders

- There are no new spellings being sent home over Christmas but please continue to help your child learn the spellings that are already in their books. There will be a quiz on a selection of the words sent home, throughout the Autumn Term, on the first Monday back after Christmas.
