Weekly News Our first week back to school after half term has been rather busy and exciting! We have a new Power of Reading Book but are yet to find out the title or what it is all about. The first page is blank except from a small picture in the corner. Through careful observation, we decided it is a picture of a moth. We then looked at a picture of a moth and wrote some noun-phrases to describe how it looks. “The small, speckled moth.” “The black and white moth.” We also started looking at the four different word classes that we have been learning about this year; nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. In our colour groups, we sorted a range of words into groups. We have also started to learn about the features of fiction and non-fiction books. When we read together., you could ask us what type of book we are reading and how we know In maths we have continued to recap our learning about time. We also started to try some time word problems, addin...

We have had a very busy week in Year 2 and done some super learning. We have been very focussed on our work and tried hard to be both aspirational and resilient. Thank you so much to all the adults who came to our internet safety café on Monday morning. We really enjoyed it and hope you did too. Thank you for all your lovely positive comments. In English we have been learning about diary entries and their key features. We have learnt about the past tense and how to use this. We have written some fantastic diary entries for our own day and also written an independent diary as a Victorian school child using some great descriptive language. In Maths we have carried on our work on telling the time and consolidated our understanding of o’clock, half past, quarter to and past as well as working on time to the nearest five minutes. We would really appreciate it children could continue to practise this over the holidays especially o’clock, half past and quarter to and past times. ...

We have had a lovely week in Year 2 and been very busy. In English this week we have been thinking about letter writing. On Monday we received a letter from Mrs Theobald asking us for ideas for an environment competition. We learnt about the features of letters and then wrote a class letter. On Thursday we wrote letters in reply to Mrs Theobald independently and tried hard with spelling, handwriting and editing. In Maths we have been learning to tell the time. We have worked really hard on o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. Some of us have been able to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes too. We will be carrying on with this next week and it would be brilliant if we could all practise a little bit at home. We have carried on learning about materials in Science and have learnt about which are natural and manmade. We had sorted some materials and went on a hunt around school to try and find different materials. In Computing we have worked hard in pairs ...

We have had another fantastic week in Year 2 and the children have been working very hard. In English this week we have been continuing our work on our Power of Reading book and the children have written some fantastic poetry. We learnt about rhyme, rhythm and repetition and tried to include these in our own poems called ‘Things I can do to help my world.’ We were impressed with children’s ideas and green pen editing. In Maths we have continued our work on data handling and have used data to answer questions. We have also learnt how to draw a block diagram thinking about the things we need to include to make these accurate. In our topic sessions this week we have focussed on map making and created our own maps. The children drew and labelled their own map to show their journey to school; a friend’s house or our walk around the village. We want to say a huge well done to all of the Year 2 children who took part in the Dance Showcase this week. They were absolutely fantas...

Jill Wright visit

On Wednesday afternoon Year 2 had a fascinating talk by Jill Wright a local author who is also an expert on the history of Mulbarton. She has written a local history book which we have been looking at class. She talked to us about the history of the village and showed us lots of photographs. We compared the village now to the village in the past. We are very grateful to Jill for giving up her afternoon and we really enjoyed it.
It has been another busy week in Year 2 as we have continued our Street Detectives topic. In English we learnt our Power of Reading book using the Talk 4 Writing technique. We added actions and practised using our voices to add expression. We then performed to the rest of class. On Thursday, we then wrote statements to explain how we each plan to help look after the world in the future. It was a rather exciting day as we were then able to use a green editing pen and find ways to make our writing even better. In maths we have been learning about statistics and data. We conducted a traffic survey on Tuesday, before using this information to draw a pictogram with our results. We found out that the most popular vehicles in Mulbarton on Tuesday, between 11:15 and 11:35 were white Ford cars! We have also tried to answer some statistics questions but we have all found this rather tricky so far and will continue to practise this at school. In science we made houses out of Leg...
