Weekly News

We have had a lovely week in Year 2 and been very busy.

In English this week we have been thinking about letter writing. On Monday we received a letter from Mrs Theobald asking us for ideas for an environment competition. We learnt about the features of letters and then wrote a class letter. On Thursday we wrote letters in reply to Mrs Theobald independently and tried hard with spelling, handwriting and editing.

In Maths we have been learning to tell the time. We have worked really hard on o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. Some of us have been able to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes too. We will be carrying on with this next week and it would be brilliant if we could all practise a little bit at home.

We have carried on learning about materials in Science and have learnt about which are natural and manmade. We had sorted some materials and went on a hunt around school to try and find different materials.

In Computing we have worked hard in pairs to produce a plan for a PowerPoint presentation all about looking after the environment.

We really enjoyed our history morning last week and thought it was brilliant to spend time with our grown ups learning about life in the past. Thank you all so much for coming along and spending time with us.

As part of our GR8 AS UR PHSE scheme this week we welcomed Helen back into school for our second assembly and workshop. Helen came with a special guest this time, a man called Simon Kindleysides who was diagnosed with a brain tumour and has been paralysed from the waist down. You may have seen him on television. He was an absolute inspiration and the children loved seeing his robotic suit that enables him to walk. Simon is currently working on a TV programme for Netflix called ‘There’s no such thing as can’t’. He has walked marathons and even has a Guiness World Record.  As our school we will now be completing our GR8 AS UR Can do Challenge. We will be working hard to remember Simon’s inspirational message. You can find Simon on various social media platforms to learn more about his story.

We are looking forward to seeing you for our Internet Safety themed learning café on Monday 10th February. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available from 8:45-9:00. You are welcome to drop the children off in the line and proceed to get your refreshments. Please ensure that any mugs and hot drinks are tidied away to the back of the room ready for the children to come in at 9:05, this is to ensure that we keep the children safe.

A reminder that next Thursday is our Victorian Day. We are inviting the children to come dressed in clothing from the Victorian era and bring a packed lunch if they wish to continue with the Victorian theme.
Have a lovely weekend.
The Year 2 team.
