Our first week back to school after half term has been rather busy and exciting!

We have a new Power of Reading Book but are yet to find out the title or what it is all about. The first page is blank except from a small picture in the corner. Through careful observation, we decided it is a picture of a moth. We then looked at a picture of a moth and wrote some noun-phrases to describe how it looks.

We also started looking at the four different word classes that we have been learning about this year; nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. In our colour groups, we sorted a range of words into groups.

We have also started to learn about the features of fiction and non-fiction books. When we read together., you could ask us what type of book we are reading and how we know



In maths we have continued to recap our learning about time. We also started to try some time word problems, adding hours, half hours and minutes. We have found this quite tricky so maybe we could practise this at home.



In science, we found out that our new topic is called “Wiggle and Crawl.” We considered the different facts and ideas we might be learning about. After that we went outside and took photographs, notes and drawings of things that interested us before sharing our findings with the rest of the class. We then chose an animal that we know well, drew a picture of it and explained its habitat.



In art we looked at a range of different artists that use watercolour paints. We looked at sweeping and dabbing techniques and how to build up layers of paint. Finally, we created our own watercolour painting of a moth that will soon be on display in the Lower School Hall.



As part of the school’s 70s week, Year 2 learnt a 70’s themed dance during their PE lesson on Friday. We all looked fabulous in our 70’s clothing too!





Notes and Reminders:

  • Please note that our Tuesday PE lesson has moved to a Friday morning. Normally, we will be sending the children home from school in their PE kits of a Thursday afternoon following their PE lesson with Mrs Sutcliffe. 

  • However, as next week is World Book Day, we will not be having a Friday PE session and so the PE kits will not be sent home on Thursday.

  • Please note that our Year 2 assembly is Thursday 19th March. It has previously stated on the website that this will be in the afternoon; however this should have said the morning.

Dear Parents, We've had a lovely week, despite the rain. On Monday we had an exciting 'Wow Day' to launch our new topic - Muck, Mess and Mixtures. We've also been making Egg box dragons, as they connect with the book we our using in our English lessons. We reminded ouselves what nouns and adjectivees are and we learnt about noun phrases and how to use a comma. In maths, we learnt how to partition numbers in a fun way: Chips and Peas, (tens and ones). Next week, year 2 will be on the grass at platime and so will be needing wellies please. This half term there will be no homework for any of the children at our school but the children will be bringing home reading books weekly. Please try to read their book with them every night, as this helps to improve their reading fluency. The school will not be writing in their reading record books from now on, (due to covid) but we will collect them in periodically. Please keep writing in them regularly though if possibl...

Home Learning - Monday 30th March, Tuesday 31st March and Wednesday 1st April.

Home Learning week beginning   30 th March Hello Year 2! We are missing you all lots and hope you and your families are keeping safe. We would love you to tell us about the work you are doing at home on here by posting in the comments section. In this post we have set work for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week as your Easter holidays start on Thursday. Weekly news 25.1.19

This week, in year 2, we have been continuing our time work by solving time problems, for example: ‘Tom left the castle at half past 2. It took him an hour and a half to walk home. What time did he get home?” We also played a pairs game to help us remember how many minutes are in an hour, hours in a day, days in a week, etc. At the end of the week we looked at number patterns, worked out the rule, and applied it to continue the sequence. In English we made a map to show the princess’ journey from the palace to the castle. Children worked in pairs to create maps showing the Norwegian features, such a ‘thickly needled pine forest’, ‘frozen lakes’ and ‘bride-white snow’. They then used these maps to help them write a set directions using adjectives, similes and alliteration. In topic we have looked at how animals are adapted to cold climates and had a go at designing our own animal with winter features.
