We have had a fabulous and greatly varied week in Year 2.  The theme for the week has been aspirations, thinking about what we’d like to do when we’re grown ups, and looking at a lots of different jobs.
On Monday, some of us were given a talk by a taxidermist, the rest of us heard about being a pilot.  We were given lots of information, both jobs sound brilliant!
In music we looked at being part of a band and learnt to sing a song all about being part of a band.
On Tuesday we either had a talk from a hospital consultant or a chaplain in the armed forces.  We then looked at the life and work of Florence Nightingale and all the wonderful things she did to change nursing, in particular the importance of keeping everything clean and free of rats!
On Wednesday we had a nurse/midwife in assembly, looking at all the amazing work they do and how wonderful it must be to help so many people.
For the rest of the day we were being bakers, making our own bread rolls.  They tasted yummy!!
In the afternoon we were given a wonderful rock concert by the children who have been learning with Rock Steady during school time.
On Thursday a wedding planner told us about some of the wonderful (and expensive) weddings she has planned for other people – one even had a helicopter to bring the bride!
We then looked at being a wedding planner and baked our own mini wedding cakes.
On Friday we were given a talk by either a musician or a scaffolder, very varied jobs but both exciting.
In the afternoon the whole school went to the common for a fun run.  It was great fun and we all ran!
Only three more days to go now, nearly the end of the year.  Please you could send in a carrier bag so we can send home the books and work from the year.

Dear Parents, We've had a lovely week, despite the rain. On Monday we had an exciting 'Wow Day' to launch our new topic - Muck, Mess and Mixtures. We've also been making Egg box dragons, as they connect with the book we our using in our English lessons. We reminded ouselves what nouns and adjectivees are and we learnt about noun phrases and how to use a comma. In maths, we learnt how to partition numbers in a fun way: Chips and Peas, (tens and ones). Next week, year 2 will be on the grass at platime and so will be needing wellies please. This half term there will be no homework for any of the children at our school but the children will be bringing home reading books weekly. Please try to read their book with them every night, as this helps to improve their reading fluency. Home Learning week beginning   30 th March Hello Year 2! We are missing you all lots and hope you and your families are keeping safe. Weekly news 25.1.19

This week, in year 2, we have been continuing our time work by solving time problems, for example: ‘Tom left the castle at half past 2. It took him an hour and a half to walk home. What time did he get home?” We also played a pairs game to help us remember how many minutes are in an hour, hours in a day, days in a week, etc. At the end of the week we looked at number patterns, worked out the rule, and applied it to continue the sequence. In English we made a map to show the princess’ journey from the palace to the castle. Children worked in pairs to create maps showing the Norwegian features, such a ‘thickly needled pine forest’, ‘frozen lakes’ and ‘bride-white snow’. They then used these maps to help them write a set directions using adjectives, similes and alliteration. In topic we have looked at how animals are adapted to cold climates and had a go at designing our own animal with winter features.
