Other ideas
Maths
·
Make
your own chips and peas (10s and 1s) using straws, pencils, tooth picks, sticks
or anything else you can find and practise adding and subtracting practically
with chips and peas. You can also practise adding and subtracting a 2 digit and
1 digit number and 2 2 digit numbers by adding chips and peas too. Ask a grown
up to give you some numbers or roll 2 dice to make 2 digit numbers to add.
Remember you might need to cross a ten.
·
Practise
multiplying using arrays (dot pictures)
·
Practise
dividing by sharing out (draw your circle) eg 10 divided by 2
·
Practise
telling the time. Please practise o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter
past. If you can tell the time to the nearest five minutes practise that too.
·
Go
on a shape hunt around your house. Can you find 2d shapes and revise their
properties? How many sides? How many vertices? What about 3d shapes? How many
faces? How many edges? How many vertices? What shape are the faces?
·
We
have just started learning about money. Can you make different amounts using
coins? Can you use different coins to make the same amount? Can you find totals
of amounts of money? Can you use your subtraction skills (you might use chips
and peas) to find change from 20p, 50p and £1?
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ this is a website suggestion that has lots of brilliant maths games that we have used in class.English
·
Read
as many books as you can and talk about your reading. Write a book review for
ones you finish.
·
You
could keep a daily diary of what you have been doing at home. Try to use your
best joined up handwriting and concentration on using capital letters, full
stops, descriptive language and conjunctions (and, but, because, so)
·
Practise
spelling the Year 1 and 2 common exception words.
·
Choose
an interesting object from around your house and write a story featuring this
object it.
Other subjects
Science – On the Twinkl website there are suggestions for easy and engaging science experiments to do at home. We have done a couple in school and the children love them! There are also lots of activities on Education City and some have been set as homework already on the homework page.
Topic - If you want to begin looking at some castle websites to begin to find facts for our new topic our knowledge organiser and topic map will tell you some of the things we will be learning.
We hope these links will be useful. We hope all our families keep safe and well and we look forward to all being back together in our classes as soon as is safely possible.
Kind regards
Mrs Brooks, Miss Shipp and Mrs Peek and the Year 2 team.
